Here’s a breakdown of what I tried:
Salt and Pepper Shrimp (Fave)
The Salt and Pepper Shrimp is definitely the star of the meal. The shrimp were cooked perfectly—crispy on the outside while staying tender on the inside. The seasoning was spot on: a blend of salty, savory, and a mild heat that was just the right amount of kick. The dish was generously sprinkled with herbs and chili, with crunchy vegetables adding extra flavor and freshness. Even though I got it through delivery, the shrimp stayed crispy, which can sometimes be a challenge with takeout. This dish alone would make me order again.
Vegetable Fried Rice (Very Good)
The Vegetable Fried Rice was another strong point. The rice was fluffy and well-seasoned, with a nice wok char that gave it a great depth of flavor. The vegetables (peas, carrots, and bell peppers) were fresh and retained their crunch, which was appreciated. It wasn’t greasy, which I liked, and it felt light but filling at the same time. It paired perfectly with the shrimp. However, I did add soy sauce and seasoning from home to give it a touch more depth, but it was still very good.
Tofu
The tofu was decent, though it wasn’t as exciting as the other dishes. The texture was soft and smooth, and it absorbed the sauce well, but it lacked a little bit of the crispiness that would have given it an extra dimension. The sauce was mild but flavorful, and it complemented the tofu nicely, but I would have loved a bit more of a punch. Still, it’s a good option for those looking for a vegetarian choice, and the portion size was generous.
Spring Rolls
The spring rolls were crispy and arrived well-packed, without getting soggy, which is always a plus with takeout. The filling was mostly vegetables and had a nice crunch, but the flavors could have been a bit bolder. The dipping sauce was sweet and tangy, but I felt it needed a little more kick or complexity. Overall, they were a solid appetizer, but not the standout of the meal.
Takeout Experience
As with any takeout order, the quality of the food can sometimes be affected by delivery, but Wok Café did a great job of packaging everything carefully. The food was still warm when it arrived, and everything was well-sealed to prevent leaks or spills.
Overall
Wok Café is definitely a great option for Asian comfort food through Uber Eats. The Salt and Pepper Shrimp is the standout here and a must-try. The Vegetable Fried Rice was flavorful and well-balanced, making it a great side dish. The Tofu was good but could use a bit more texture or flavor. The Spring Rolls were solid but not as impressive as the other items.
The meal was satisfying, and I would definitely order from Wok Café again, especially for their shrimp and fried rice. If you’re craving bold flavors and comforting, hearty dishes, this is a reliable spot."
"The best service I have ever had. The lady was very nice, and the food was delicious. My friend ate here few months ago and recommended it to me. I can say that I will come every time I will be in Montreal 10/10. Thank you very much for everything. Happy New Year!"
"Very good place, nice family owned restaurant with good portions and nice staff. Highly recommend the homemade beef and general tao. Prices are low, and the quality is amazing. Will be coming back in the future"
"I had an amazing experience here! The staff are incredibly friendly. I was impressed by how quickly my food arrived—just a few minutes after ordering! I’ve tried several dishes, and every single one was great. I’ll definitely be coming back!"
"Lovely people, owners and staff.
Very welcome atmosphere with open kitchen. Place is clean.
I’m nice you order it does not take too long for dishes to be served at the table.
Their shumai (dim sum) was tasty and light, some of the pork was a little too chewy.
General Tao chicken. Found it to have too much breading and the sauce was not the typical general Tao sauce I’m accustomed to as it seems to have a strong citrus to it but I am really not sure. I actually can’t describe what the flavouring was for that matter.
Crispy fried sesame shrimp also has an odd sauce that we were not used to and as such was the weakest dish we ordered. Shrimp were properly cooked and not too much breading and nice and crisp on the outside.
Chicken in black bean sauce was very tasty but lacking sufficient veggies and not much of them except tons of onions. Luckily the onions tasted fantastic. Chicken was what appears to be white meat and was juicy.
Spring rolls were way too greasy and the oil smelled off. The spring roll itself was lacking any real flavour or for that matter sufficient amount of meaningful ingredients and as such we left them over.
Their white rice was cooked perfectly
The tofu general Tao was surprisingly good. The tofu was cooked to a gentle crisp and then covered in general Tao sauce - the same from the other dish. Oddly the sauce was not too bad on the tofu dish
The real star of the were the peanut butter dumplings. This was perfect toy cooked, delicate outer dough, filling was proportionate to the size of the wrap, and the sauce was fantastic. Tip. If you have leftover sauce pour it over your white rice it’s awesome. I could just go there for plates and plates of the dumplings."
"I am a traveller from Edmonton and I have stayed in Montreal for 4 days. As Chinese, I can say this is such an authentic Chinese restaurant, and I think this is the best Chinese food I’ve taken in Montreal. We ordered 五香牛腩饭 & 鱼香茄子the price is so fair and food is very delicious! Love it. ?"
"My favourite place that stays open late to bring my friends to after a night out. A lot of authentic dishes and the usual stuff you see at dim sum made to order at a fair price for big portions. Open view of the kitchen from the dinning area so you can see and hear your food being tossed in the wok. Clean tables, plates and utensils. Servers are attentive and speak English, French and Chinese, including a less well known dialect from my family’s hometown."
"I first came here over 12 years ago. This place is still as charming as it was many years ago. The food is always amazing. Perfectly fresh and hot, service is ALWAYS quick, attentive servers who help with questions. Probably one of the very few places in today’s world that has reasonable prices and gives you amazing portions. This place is amazing, really a hidden gem within Montreal."
